We here in the US Support Group spend a lot of our free time helping the Haitian populace. We have the "Nou Zanmi" program, which distributes donations to the community. We also have the "Brother's" medical outreach program that provides field surgery and other medical assistance; this is a mission operated by a Catholic Brother in the poorest area of Port Au Prince (hence the term "Brother's").
We also conduct "Operations Starfish" and "Port Calls." "Starfish" are one day trips to outlying schools and orphanages where we help in the restoration of their fixed structures. A "Starfish operation completes 1/2 of the job and the reamining work is completed by the crew of a US Coast Guard Cutter that pull into the port on occasion.
The folowing are pictures of the last "Starfish" we conducted. Unfortunately, we were unable to complete the work because of security reasons. A Haitian-American was shot in the head and killed by a Hatian national just outside the school. Crowds gather quickly here in haiti, so we made the decision to pull out of the area to avoid any mob hysterics
